Revolut Appoints Ex-Trading.com CEO Georgios Vasiliou to Head Cyprus Crypto Unit

Revolut has appointed ex-Trading.com CEO Georgios Vasiliou to lead its Cyprus digital assets business, succeeding founding CEO Costas Michael, who stays on as board advisor.

Revolut has appointed Georgios Vasiliou as CEO of its Cyprus-based digital assets unit. Vasiliou previously served as chief executive of Trading.com, a sister brand of retail broker XM. He takes over from Costas Michael, the founding CEO of Revolut's Cyprus operation, who stepped down internally about two months ago and confirmed the move publicly on LinkedIn. Michael will remain on the board of the Cyprus entity as an advisor.

Vasiliou brings extensive risk and trading experience to the role. He spent 12 years within the XM Group, progressing from a dealing desk position to risk manager before joining Trading.com, where he served as chief risk officer and later CEO for five years. His appointment continues Revolut's pattern of recruiting senior talent from Cyprus' well-established brokerage sector, with a particular emphasis on risk specialists.

The shift comes as European crypto regulation becomes more demanding. The grandfathering period for MiCA, the EU's effort to harmonise crypto rules across the bloc, ended in July. Revolut's Cyprus unit was among the early recipients of a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) licence from CySEC and has since positioned itself to operate under the MiCA framework.

The EU is now reviewing MiCA. With another seasoned risk executive at the helm, Revolut signals that compliance and risk controls remain its top priority as it expands its regulated crypto services across the bloc.
