OANDA Japan to Implement Passkey Authentication

OANDA Japan Inc, a subsidiary of online broker OANDA Corporation, plans to introduce passkey authentication for its clients in a move aimed at stronger account security.

The brokerage cited a recent rise in phishing scams and credential stuffing attacks as the driving factor. Adding urgency, the Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) revised its "Guidelines for Preventing Unauthorized Access to Internet Transactions" on October 15, 2025, mandating stricter protections for online financial services.

From June 18, 2026, OANDA Japan will offer passkey authentication (compatible with the FIDO2 standard) as an alternative login method. The feature will be optional at first but will gradually become mandatory for all users. The broker advises clients to switch to passkey authentication as soon as possible.

Passkey authentication eliminates the use of traditional passwords. Instead, users log in via biometric methods such as fingerprint or facial recognition, or through a PIN code on their smartphone or PC. The technology is designed to be both more convenient and more resistant to remote attacks.

The passkey system will be available across three OANDA Japan services: My Page, fxTrade, and TradingView. The broker expects the change to offer a safer trading environment for customers’ assets and personal information.
