Marex to Acquire Brainchild Capital Investments in Power and Gas Push

Marex Group has agreed to buy Netherlands-based clearing and execution firm Brainchild Capital Investments, expanding into European power, gas and emissions markets. The deal is expected to close in late 2026 or early 2027.

Marex Group has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Brainchild Capital Investments (BCI), a Netherlands-based clearing and execution specialist focused on European energy markets. The announcement came on Monday, with the company saying the deal strengthens its offering in derivatives and physical markets for power and gas.

BCI, founded in 2014, supports European greenhouse operators with access to European energy markets. The company provides execution services across gas, electricity and emissions products, along with physical delivery and hedging capabilities in power and gas.

Thomas Texier, Marex group head of clearing, said BCI occupies a strong niche and that the acquisition aligns with Marex's strategy to expand its clearing business and introduce new clients to the platform. He added that the deal would deepen Marex's knowledge of European power markets and create revenue synergies for clients requiring physical delivery and spot trading capabilities.

Wouter Alblas, chief executive of BCI, described the acquisition as an exciting new chapter for the firm. He said becoming part of Marex would give BCI clients access to a broader range of products, deeper liquidity and global market expertise, while maintaining the specialist service they value.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to complete in late 2026 or early 2027. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
