Marex Appoints Robert Cheeseman as Head of Prime Services Asia

Marex Group (NASDAQ: MRX) has named Robert Cheeseman as Head of Prime Services Asia, tasking him with leading the firm's prime brokerage and outsourced trading businesses across the region from Hong Kong.

Cheeseman arrives with more than 25 years of institutional markets experience covering listed derivatives, prime services and electronic trading, with much of that career spent in Asia-Pacific. He joins Marex from Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX), where he was Managing Director and Co-Head of Client Development.

A regional prime services build-out

Before HKEX, Cheeseman spent close to four years at Credit Suisse as Managing Director and Head of APAC Prime Derivatives Services, where he oversaw trading teams in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Mumbai. His earlier roles include Head of APAC Cross-Asset Listed Derivatives Execution at Morgan Stanley and nearly a decade at Goldman Sachs, beginning in cash equity electronic trading in London before relocating to Hong Kong for listed derivatives sales and trading.

In the new role, Cheeseman will work with hedge funds, asset managers, family offices and other institutional clients across Asia, supporting their access to the infrastructure needed to launch and scale their operations. He will also collaborate with Marex's global and regional prime services co-heads on the division's wider growth strategy.

Jack Seibald, Global Co-Head of Prime Services at Marex, described Asia as an important growth market for the group and said the appointment bolsters its ability to expand in the region and deepen relationships with clients there.

The hire extends Marex's push into Asia's prime services and outsourced trading space, a segment where demand from regional hedge funds and asset managers has been building.
