Korbit adds Shinhan Certificate option for account linking, cutting wait times

South Korean crypto exchange Korbit has introduced the Shinhan Certificate as an additional identity verification method for linking Shinhan Bank accounts, streamlining the process and reducing waiting periods.

The exchange announced on Tuesday that users can now choose between the Shinhan Certificate — Shinhan Bank's electronic-signature-based authentication service — and the previous automated response system (ARS) when linking their bank accounts. Previously, only ARS was available for identity verification.

By selecting the Shinhan Certificate, users can complete the account-linking procedure without waiting for an ARS connection, which often involves hold times. Korbit said the new option leverages Shinhan Bank's authentication infrastructure to enhance security while making the process more efficient.

“The introduction of the Shinhan Certificate allows users to choose the authentication method that best suits their needs,” said Lee Jeong-woo, Korbit’s chief technology officer and chief product officer. “We will continue to upgrade our services to provide a more convenient and secure experience, putting the customer first.”

Korbit has maintained a real-name verified account partnership with Shinhan Bank since 2018, a requirement for fiat-to-crypto trading in South Korea. The addition of the Shinhan Certificate is the latest move by the exchange to improve user onboarding and convenience.
