Investec to Offer IG’s Trading Platform in South Africa Under Its Own Brand
IG Prime will supply the technology, execution and risk tools behind a South African trading platform carrying Investec's brand, giving the UK group an institutional route into the market.
IG Prime, the institutional arm of IG Group, has signed Investec Prime Services as a partner for its white-label trading platform in South Africa. Under the arrangement, Investec retains its own branding while IG provides the trading technology, execution, analytics and risk tools that sit behind the service.
The offering covers derivatives on equities, indices, FX, commodities and fixed income. Investec's South African clients will be able to reach roughly 19,000 instruments that IG lists globally, of which about 12,000 are single stocks, according to the announcement. The package also includes 24/5 trading in selected equity markets and weekend trading in index and FX markets.
A local channel after retail exit
The deal hands IG a presence in South Africa after it closed its rand-denominated retail accounts in mid-2025. Rather than returning with its own consumer brand, the London-listed group now reaches the market through a local bank's institutional desk. IG Prime launched the white-label service in September 2025 with an unnamed international banking group as its first client, targeting the hedge fund clients of banks. A trading update in May noted that the institutional white-label offering had gone live that month and that a first partner had been onboarded, without identifying it.
Babita Ittoo Devillers, managing director of IG Prime, said interest from prospective partners had given the firm "real confidence in the scale of the opportunity ahead."
Investec Prime Services is a unit of Investec Bank Limited and provides execution, custody, clearing and securities lending to hedge funds, corporates and other institutional clients, according to its website.
The partnership fits IG's broader effort to widen its revenue base beyond leveraged retail trading. The group completed the acquisition of Australian crypto exchange Independent Reserve in January, and lists Freetrade and tastytrade alongside IG Prime among its brands. IG reported record revenue of GBP 1.12 billion for 2025, with a strategy update scheduled in London on October 22.
