Ex-AvaTrade Executives Secure CySEC Licence for Retail Broker Godo

A group of former AvaTrade executives has secured a CySEC licence for Godo, a new retail brokerage set to operate from Cyprus under European Union rules.

Former executives of AvaTrade have obtained a licence from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) for Godo, a new retail brokerage, according to a report on the development. The approval places the venture among the firms authorised to offer investment services to retail clients from a Cypriot base.

A familiar route into Europe

CySEC authorisation is a standard entry point for retail brokers that want to serve clients across the European Union, because a Cyprus licence can be passported into other member states under the bloc's investment-services framework. For a newly launched brand, holding that permission is typically a prerequisite for onboarding retail clients, marketing locally and maintaining banking and payment relationships.

The founding team's background at AvaTrade, a long-established retail forex and CFD broker with operations across several jurisdictions, suggests the new entity will target the same retail trading segment. AvaTrade has built its business around leveraged products such as currency pairs, indices and commodities, a model that has come under closer regulatory scrutiny in Europe in recent years through leverage caps and marketing restrictions.

Details of the new operation remain limited. The report did not name the individuals behind Godo, disclose its ownership or capital structure, or specify a launch date, product line-up or target markets beyond the CySEC registration. It also did not indicate whether the firm intends to apply for permissions in additional jurisdictions.

The licence adds to a steady flow of new CySEC-registered investment firms, as experienced brokerage staff leave larger groups to set up independent operations. Whether Godo competes on pricing, platform technology or a specific client niche has yet to be made public.
