Crypto.com Names Former LSEG Executive To Lead Exchange As It Targets Prediction Markets

Crypto.com has appointed former LSEG executive Iskandar Vanblarcum as Managing Director of its exchange, with a mandate to expand institutional business and build a regulated prediction markets venue.

Crypto.com has appointed former London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) executive Iskandar Vanblarcum as Managing Director of the Crypto.com Exchange, effective immediately. Vanblarcum will lead the exchange’s institutional expansion and spearhead the company’s entry into regulated prediction markets.

Vanblarcum brings over two decades of experience in investment banking and market infrastructure, including senior roles at LSEG and Barclays Investment Bank. Since moving into digital assets in 2021, he has worked on institutional trading products and regulatory licensing across the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), and licensing initiatives in The Bahamas.

The appointment signals Crypto.com’s strategic shift toward positioning prediction markets as an institutional product rather than a retail novelty. The company plans to build an institutional-grade venue for event contracts, offering contracts tied to elections, economic releases, sporting events and corporate outcomes. These contracts settle based on whether a specified event occurs, differentiating them from traditional derivatives referencing financial assets.

Vanblarcum will also oversee the expansion of institutional services including tokenized real-world assets, derivatives, and collateral solutions. The exchange recently integrated BlackRock’s tokenized money market fund BUIDL as eligible margin collateral for institutional traders, and introduced a redesigned trading interface to improve market analysis and order execution.

Regulatory Challenge

Prediction markets face varying classifications globally, with some jurisdictions treating them as derivatives and others imposing restrictions. Vanblarcum’s experience across multiple regulatory regimes is expected to support Crypto.com’s global licensing strategy as it seeks to operate in regulated jurisdictions.

The appointment reflects a broader trend of crypto exchanges recruiting traditional finance leaders to build regulated multi-asset infrastructure. Crypto.com’s strategy aims to transform its exchange from a cryptocurrency marketplace into a full-service institutional digital finance platform, supporting both crypto-native assets and tokenized traditional products.
