Capital.com to take over FxPro’s Cyprus client book

Capital.com will acquire the Cyprus client book of FxPro, with only customers passing its onboarding and risk checks transferring. Neither side disclosed the price.

Capital.com has agreed to take over the client book of FxPro's Cyprus entity, in a deal that will move customer accounts from FxPro Financial Services Ltd to Capital Com Group Ltd, the broker's Cyprus investment firm regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Finance Magnates first reported the sale on 14 October, and FX News Group also covered the agreement; neither outlet reported a price, which the parties have not disclosed.

Under the arrangement, only clients who clear Capital.com's onboarding and risk standards will transfer. Each account is assessed on its own categorisation, appropriateness — whether a given product suits the client's knowledge and experience — target market and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements covering identity and background.

Differing accounts of the regulatory status

The two reports describe the regulatory position differently. Finance Magnates said CySEC approval for the transfer is still pending, while FX News Group reported the move follows the regulator's approval of the change of control of the licensed business, along with client eligibility sign-off.

FxPro retains its Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) licence and its City of London headquarters, according to Finance Magnates. Chief Operating Officer Peter Aust said the Cyprus business is not a significant part of the group, adding that FxPro continues with the same ownership, leadership and long-term strategy. He framed the sale as a reallocation of effort rather than a retreat from the region, noting that "the vast majority of our growth in recent years has come from outside of Europe."

Commenting on the transaction, Christoforos Soutzis, Europe CEO of Capital.com, said the step strengthens the firm's reach in Europe and, once the transfer completes, brings an established client base into the environment Capital.com has built. The company has served clients from Cyprus since 2017.

Capital.com has previously grown its European book through acquisition. Finance Magnates noted its 2023 purchase of the client book of OvalX, the broker formerly known as ETX Capital.
