Bitget Institutional API Raises Single-Account Ceiling to 600 RPS, Adds 120,000 RPS Aggregate Cap

Bitget's new institutional API rate-limit framework took effect today, allowing top MM1 and PRO6 clients to configure up to 600 requests per second per UID and up to 120,000 RPS in aggregate.

Bitget has activated a revised institutional API rate-limit framework, effective today, that lifts the highest configurable single-account ceiling to 600 requests per second (RPS) per UID for eligible market-maker (MM1) and PRO-tier (PRO6) clients trading under the exchange's unified trading account (UTA). The framework also sets an aggregate master-sub-account cap of as much as 120,000 RPS, quoted separately for UTA spot and UTA futures activity.

Tiered limits and manual configuration

The 600 RPS level is reserved for the top MM1 and PRO6 tiers. Other market-maker and PRO tiers receive correspondingly lower single-account and aggregate ceilings, while rate limits in classic-account mode are unchanged. Crucially, the maximum is not granted automatically: institutions must configure quotas per UID in line with their trading strategy and account structure, and the combined allocations across sub-accounts cannot exceed the aggregate cap for their tier.

Sub-accounts created after initialization also need manual rate-limit configuration. Where no quota is assigned, Bitget applies a default of 10 requests per second once the mechanism is live. The exchange advised existing eligible users to complete configuration ahead of the effective date to avoid dropping back to that default.

Why rate limits matter

API rate limits govern how often an automated system can submit, cancel and replace orders, retrieve account data and manage execution workflow without being throttled. Bitget said the more granular per-UID structure lets market makers raise limits on a specific UID instead of opening additional accounts simply to obtain more request capacity — an advantage for firms quoting across many instruments or running multiple sub-accounts.

The update sits within Bitget's broader institutional offering, which spans unified trading accounts, whitelisted sub-account and API management, block trade and OTC. The company positions itself at the execution layer of an institutional setup rather than as a custodian, with clients typically pairing venue access with custody held through separate arrangements.

The framework covers MM and PRO users trading spot and futures through the unified trading account. Technical documentation on API authentication, endpoint-level limits and unified-account integration is published in Bitget's API documentation, with account setup and permissioning covered in its unified trading account guide. Institutional clients seeking PRO-tier access or API configuration support can contact the firm's Institutional Partnerships team.

Founded in 2018 and registered in Seychelles, Bitget describes itself as a Universal Exchange (UEX) bringing crypto and a growing range of tokenized and traditional-market products onto one platform. The exchange has published monthly proof-of-reserves data since December 2022 and maintains a separate Protection Fund held apart from user deposits.
