Binance App Disappears From Google Play in Parts of the…

Binance's Android app has disappeared from Google Play in Spain but remains available in Poland and other app stores, raising questions about MiCA licensing requirements after the exchange withdrew its Greek authorization application.

Binance's Android application has been removed from the Google Play Store in Spain, according to reports that emerged this week, adding to uncertainty about the exchange's ability to serve customers under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets framework.

A user in Spain confirmed on Monday that the Binance app no longer appeared in Google Play searches. The application remained available through Oppo's App Market, suggesting the restriction applies to Google's distribution channel rather than all Android app stores. Checks in Poland showed Binance still available via Google Play, indicating the change is limited to certain countries or user accounts rather than a complete EU removal.

Reports of the app disappearing began circulating after OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos claimed Google Play had removed it due to MiCA licensing requirements. Neither Binance nor Google has publicly confirmed this explanation, leaving uncertainty over whether the changes were initiated by the exchange, the app store, or local regulators.

The removal follows Binance's decision to withdraw its MiCA authorization application in Greece shortly before the framework's transitional period ended on July 1. Binance already suspended certain EU services on July 1 — new spot orders, deposits, sign-ups, and Earn/staking/launchpool products are halted for EU residents. Existing accounts are limited to closing positions and withdrawing funds, with notification emails sent to users in France, Italy, Spain, and Poland.

MiCA establishes a unified licensing system for crypto-asset service providers, allowing companies approved in one member state to operate across much of the bloc. Exchanges without the required approval may face restrictions on onboarding customers, marketing services, or offering certain products once national transition arrangements expire.

The removal of an app from a regional store does not by itself prove an exchange has been barred from operating. App availability can be affected by licensing disclosures, country-level settings, platform policies, or developer decisions. The continued presence of Binance on Google Play in Poland and through Oppo's store in Spain makes the current scope harder to assess.

Existing users who already have the Binance app installed may not be affected immediately, although future updates could become harder to obtain if the app remains unavailable in their local Google Play store. New users face a greater obstacle, potentially turning to alternative stores, but should be cautious about downloading financial apps from unofficial sources due to fraud risks.

Binance's decision to keep withdrawals available reduces the risk of users being trapped on the platform. However, restrictions on trading, deposits, and other services could encourage customers to transfer funds to exchanges holding full MiCA authorization. The absence of a detailed statement from Binance leaves users without clear information on which countries are affected, whether restrictions are temporary, or how existing installations will be supported.

Binance remains one of the world's largest crypto exchanges, but MiCA is increasingly dividing the EU market between firms with authorization and those still adjusting operations. Licensed exchanges may gain an advantage with uninterrupted app access and consistent product offerings across member states. Binance could still pursue authorization through another EU jurisdiction, but until it clarifies its licensing strategy, each new restriction renews concerns about its long-term access to the bloc.
