After Seven Years at OANDA, Mark Chesterman Steps Down as Chief Risk Officer

Mark Chesterman has left OANDA after seven years as Chief Risk Officer, the latest in a series of leadership changes at the retail FX and CFD broker.

Mark Chesterman has stepped down as Chief Risk Officer at OANDA, closing a seven-year tenure at the retail foreign exchange and CFD broker. He confirmed the departure in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, writing: "Today was my last day at OANDA, bringing seven years to a close."

Chesterman characterised his time at the firm as a period of "almost constant change". His remit extended beyond risk oversight into mergers and acquisitions, trading operations and board governance, and he also referred to global leadership responsibilities carried out against the backdrop of artificial intelligence's growing role in the business. His LinkedIn profile separately lists a spell as Head of Trading at OANDA lasting two years and nine months.

A career built in FX and futures

Before joining OANDA, Chesterman spent ten months as Chief Operating Officer at Stater Global Markets, a prime-of-prime broker. The bulk of his earlier career was spent at IG, where he worked for more than 14 years across a series of trading and institutional roles.

At IG he served eleven months as Chief Operating Officer of IG Institutional, working on operational processes, client onboarding and credit risk policies for the institutional business. He then spent two years and two months as Global Business Development Officer, covering strategy, product development, marketing and revenue growth across the institutional arm and its MetaTrader 4 platform. Earlier, he held the Head of Futures and FX post for three years and ten months, overseeing trading strategy, client flow monetisation and product development across FX, index derivatives, commodities and interest rates. He began at IG as a Dealer for four years and seven months before serving three years as Chief FX Dealer.

His exit comes amid wider senior-level turnover at OANDA. In June, Lucian Lauerman was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of OANDA Europe Limited, following the appointment of FTMO founders Otakar Šuffner and Marek Vašíček as co-CEOs of OANDA after discussions with Gavin Bambury, who stepped down as CEO.
